Skincare Gazette was founded on a simple frustration: it is difficult to know what actually works when so much of the beauty conversation is shaped by the people selling the product. We wanted an independent voice for Australian readers, one that tests rather than takes a marketing brief at its word.
Every item we cover is purchased anonymously at standard retail price, either in shops or through ordinary online channels. We do not accept free samples for review, and we do not accept payment, discount or any other consideration in exchange for coverage or a favourable result. If a brand offers, we decline. This is the only way a comparative test means anything.
Our method is deliberately unglamorous. Products are tested side by side under consistent conditions, results are recorded before any editorial judgement is made, and write-ups follow from the data rather than the other way around.
How Findings Are Checked
Before any test result is published, it is reviewed by a small standing panel that includes a dermatologist, a research scientist with a background in skin physiology, and a pharmacist. Their role is to check that our methods are sound, that claims are proportionate to the evidence, and that nothing in our write-up overstates what the testing actually showed. This panel has no commercial relationship with any brand we cover and is not identified individually, in keeping with our policy of keeping the focus on the work rather than the people doing it.
Corrections and Suggestions
We get things wrong occasionally, and when we do, we want to know. If you spot an error, have a correction, or think we have missed something worth testing, the editorial team welcomes a note. Details for reaching us sit on our contact page, and every message is read by a person, not a filter.
